How to Get to Pas de la Case: Directions, Train, Bus and Distances
Pas de la Case is the first village in Andorra after the French border, above 2,000 m, at the end of the RN20 and N22 roads from Ariège. Driving is the easiest way to get there, but you can also take the train to L'Hospitalet-près-l'Andorre, a bus or a carpool. Here are the routes from the main cities and our tips for the road.

By Car from France
From Toulouse and the north: the classic route follows the A66 then the N20 via Foix, Tarascon-sur-Ariège and Ax-les-Thermes. At L'Hospitalet-près-l'Andorre, leave the N20 for the N22, which climbs to the border and Pas de la Case. This is the busiest route, with frequent slowdowns between Ax-les-Thermes and the border on Saturdays and during holidays.
From Perpignan and the Mediterranean: take the N116 (Prades, Mont-Louis) to Bourg-Madame, then follow the N20 north via Porté-Puymorens. Cross the Puymorens pass or tunnel (toll tunnel, safer in winter), then take the N22 to Pas de la Case.
By Car from Spain
From Barcelona, there are two options: the C-16 and the Cadí tunnel to Puigcerdà, then the French N20 and the Puymorens; or via La Seu d'Urgell and Andorra (Andorra la Vella, then the CG-2 and the Envalira toll tunnel or the Envalira pass). The second option crosses the whole country: handy if you stop in Andorra la Vella, slower on busy days.
By Train
There is no station in Pas de la Case. The nearest one is L'Hospitalet-près-l'Andorre, on the TER line Toulouse – Latour-de-Carol, about ten kilometres from the village. The Paris-Austerlitz – Latour-de-Carol night train also stops there. From the station, you need to finish the trip by bus, taxi or carpool: check connections before you leave, especially outside the season.
By Bus and Shuttle
Coach companies connect Andorra with Toulouse (station and airport) and Barcelona (station and airport). Not all of them stop in Pas de la Case: many go straight to Andorra la Vella. When booking, check that the "Pas de la Casa" stop is served. During the ski season, shuttles also link accommodation with the ski lifts.
Another budget option: carpooling to Pas de la Case, very popular from Toulouse.
By Plane
- Toulouse-Blagnac: about 190 km, the most convenient airport from France.
- Barcelona El Prat: about 220 km, many international flights.
- Andorra – La Seu d'Urgell (Spain): the closest, but very few flights.
From the airport, renting a car is still the easiest way to reach Pas de la Case.
Road Tips
- Winter: the road climbs above 2,000 m. Winter tyres or chains are mandatory in snowy periods: see the snow equipment rules.
- Closures: in storms or avalanche risk, the N22 and RN20 may be closed. Check whether the road to Pas de la Case is open today.
- Border: Andorra is not in the European Union. Bring an ID and respect the customs allowances on the way back.
